For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:13-14).

A few days ago, I got to babysit my two daughters while Jean went to a doctor’s appointment.  For me this is both a special and challenging time.  Jean seems to know so much better than me all their needs.  But on this occasion I did ok.  I fed them lunch and then played with them reading some books.  I continue to marvel at their growth and curiosity.  They are truly fearfully and wonderfully made.

When Jean came home, she had two pictures in her hand.  They were 3D ultra-sound photos of our two sons.  Another humbling reminder of the truth of Psalm 139.  God has chosen to enlarge our family again this time it will be twin boys due in July.  We are happy and downright scared at the prospect of having FOUR children all under the age of THREE!

I know that in the midst of the chaos which will come I will be reminding myself that these children are a true blessing from God.  They may not always feel like a blessing.  But in the quiet moments I am always so humbled by the miracle of life, their inquisitive looks.. their smirks, their giggles.

God knew us from our mother’s womb.  He loved us from our mother’s womb.  He knit us together, forming us.  During this part of the process we have little control or influence.  The hard part comes once they are born and we begin to love and influence our children to the best of our ability.  I pray for God’s grace and blessing not just from now until birth, but for the entire childhood as our four children grow.
